Meet Dr. David C. Gibson, M.D., Chief Medical Officer and Owner of Transitions Health and Wellness, PLLC. Dr. Gibson was born in McKinney, TX and obtained his undergraduate degree from Austin College where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a major in Biochemistry and minor in Sociology. Dr. Gibson attended medical school at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, TX where he graduated with honors. Despite distinguished accolades in clinical psychiatry, he found his natural talents in biochemistry, pharmacology, anatomy and physiology better suited him for the practice of Anesthesiology. Dr. Gibson spent the next four years at The University of Texas Medical Branch Anesthesiology Department where he earned the title of “The Outstanding Anesthesia Resident” of his graduating class and scored in the top 99th percentile in the nation on his board certification exam in 2008. As a resident physician, Dr. Gibson received extensive training in ICU, trauma, neurosurgery, open heart, pediatrics and obstetric anesthesia. Perhaps his most important experience was at the Shriner’s Hospital for burned children in Galveston, where much of our current understanding of ketamine and its clinical use was pioneered. At “The Shrine”, Dr. Gibson witnessed the power of ketamine to safely treat pain and anxiety under the most unimaginable circumstances, whereby all other conventional anesthetics and antidepressants proved ineffective.
Dr. Gibson has been in private practice in the North Dallas area for the past 15 years and has safely performed over 10 thousand general anesthetics and peripheral iv’s, thousands of epidurals, and other nerve blocks. In addition to infusion medicine, his other areas of practice include labor and delivery and office-based anesthesia. Labor and delivery anesthesia is unique as it requires excellent technical skills in vascular access and nerve block technique, paired with the ability to calm mothers and families alike during such a stressful time all without the use of sedative medications. Similarly, with office-based anesthesia Dr. Gibson must rely solely on intravenous sedation for surgical procedures in a way that calms patients and families with safe and exceptional results every time. Dr. Gibson’s clinical experience and personality make him a natural fit for treating non-surgical anxiety and depression in an office setting.
Perhaps his most obvious link to behavioral health is his wife, Loren Gibson, MA, LMFT-S, LPC-S who is owner and clinical director of Transitions Therapeutic Services of North Texas, PLLC, a large multidisciplinary mental health counseling practice with offices in McKinney, Allen, Plano and Dallas. Together, the Gibson’s have dedicated their careers to improving the health and fitness of their home and surrounding communities. They share three beautiful children ages 9,7 and 5. Dr. Gibson is an accomplished musician, former athlete and dedicated Little League baseball coach for his boys while Loren is the hockey and figure skating mom of the family. As leaders in healthcare and the community, the Gibson’s strive to help everyone around them become the best versions of themselves.
